Description

Sandblasting gold printing with Agios Paisios

Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (born Arsenios Eznepidis) became widely known for his life and work. After his death, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew began the process of his canonization and was consecrated a Saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. The Greek Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on July 12.

He lived the last years of his life in the cell of Panagouda, which he found abandoned. There he worked hard with a multitude of people who visited him offering spiritual help with his prayers and teachings. At the same time, he continued his intense ascetic life, to the point of resting little every day. But he continued to accept and try to help the visitors. He also used to make “stamped” icons as handicrafts which he gave to visitors as a blessing.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of Saint Paisios, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing, creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal foil is glued on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
