Description

Gold Printing with Sandblasting featuring Saint Paisios

Saint Paisios the Athonite (born Arsenios Eznepidis) became widely known for his life and spiritual works. After his death, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew initiated his canonization process, and he was declared a saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. The Greek Orthodox Church commemorates his memory on July 12.

Saint Paisios lived his final years at the abandoned cell of Panagouda, where he worked tirelessly, offering spiritual guidance and prayers to the many visitors. Despite his intense ascetic life, he continued to receive visitors and bless them with his teachings. He also made “stamped” icons, which he would give away as blessings.

Gold Printing with Sandblasting: Features

In this icon of Saint Paisios, the monk-artist used the technique of gold printing, creating a masterpiece of exquisite beauty. Gold printing is a form of thermographic technique, where very thin metal foil is applied to surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, or plastic under pressure using a heated relief plate (cliché). The technique of sandblasting is used around the icon, which involves sand being blasted onto the surface under pressure, creating a textured finish.
