Description

Handmade Pyrography Depicting Saint Paisios

An exceptional image created using the pyrography technique, depicting Saint Paisios. This image is entirely handmade.

Arsenios Eznepidis, his secular name, was born in Farasa, Cappadocia. On August 7, 1924, just one week before they were to leave for Greece as part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, he was baptized by the priest of his parish, Arsenios, who was later recognized as a saint by the Orthodox Church in 1988.

His canonization as a saint by the Orthodox Church was performed by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. The Orthodox Church commemorates his memory on July 12. In 2017, he was declared the patron saint of the military branch of Communications, by decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

In his last years, Saint Paisios lived in the Panagouda cell on Mount Athos, where he was visited by many people to listen to him and receive his blessing. He lived a strict ascetic life, with only 2 to 3 hours of rest a day. After his death, he was buried at the Holy Hesychast Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Sourpoti, Thessaloniki. Every year, on July 11 to 12, during his feast day, an all-night vigil is held at the monastery, attended by thousands of faithful.

Pyrography: Characteristics

Pyrography is an art form that attracts many creators due to the impressive results that can be achieved. It is a painting technique where two of nature’s primal elements, wood and fire, are used. With patience and attention to detail, monks create pyrographic images, giving great care to avoiding mistakes, as these cannot be corrected like pencil drawings.

This image combines the art of engraving with pyrography, creating an exceptional relief effect.
