Description

Lithograph with Sandblasting of Saint Paisios – Mount Athos

Saint Paisios of Mount Athos, born Arsenios Eznepidis in Farasa, Cappadocia, was baptized just before he and his family were forced to move to Greece as part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1924. He became known as one of the most revered modern saints of the Orthodox Church. His canonization was officially declared by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015. The Orthodox Church celebrates his feast day on July 12. In 2017, he was declared the patron saint of the Greek military’s communication services.

In his later years, Saint Paisios lived an ascetic life in the Panagouda cell on Mount Athos, where he was visited by many people seeking his counsel and blessings. His intense ascetic lifestyle involved very little rest, only 2 to 3 hours of sleep per day. After his death, he was buried at the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, Thessaloniki. Every year, on the eve of his feast day, a vigil is held in his honor, attracting thousands of faithful.

Lithograph with Sandblasting: Features

This image of Saint Paisios is created using the lithography technique, following a Byzantine art tradition. The monk artist carefully applies artificial aging techniques, which were learned in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos. The image is handmade, with special attention given to the traditional methods used by the monks in the Holy Mountain.

Additionally, the image is framed with sandblasting, a technique where sand is blasted under pressure onto the surface, creating a unique textured effect.

The image is available upon request.
