Description

Silkscreen of Saint Paisios on Naturally Aged Wood

This beautiful icon depicts Saint Paisios the Athonite (July 25, 1924 – July 12, 1994), who became widely known for his life and work.

Arsenios Eznepidis, as his secular name was, was born in Farasa, Cappadocia. On August 7, 1924, a week before the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, he was baptized by the parish priest of his hometown, Saint Arsenius, who was later canonized by the Orthodox Church in 1988.

Saint Paisios was officially recognized as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople on January 13, 2015, and his feast day is celebrated on July 12. In 2017, he was proclaimed the patron saint of the military corps of Signals by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. In his last years, he lived in the Kelli of Panagouda on Mount Athos, where he received many visitors who came to hear his teachings and receive his blessing. He lived a deeply ascetic life, with only 2 to 3 hours of rest per day. After his death, he was buried at the Monastery of St. John the Theologian in Sourpoti, Thessaloniki.

This exceptional icon on naturally aged wood clearly shows the cracks and age, features that further enhance its unique value. The icon stands out not only for its theme of Saint Paisios the Athonite and the amazing silkscreen art but also for the wood used as its base. The monk who created it used naturally aged wood from a cell on Mount Athos, which was renovated.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
