Silk-Screen Print of Saint Nicholas on Naturally Aged Wood
An exceptional image depicting Saint Nicholas, one of the greatest saints of Orthodoxy, whose feast day is celebrated on December 6th.
Saint Nicholas was born in the 3rd century AD in Patara, Lycia, to devout and wealthy parents. Orphaned at a young age, he inherited a large fortune from his parents, which he generously distributed to relieve the suffering of those in need.
He later devoted himself to an ascetic life and was eventually honored with the position of Archbishop of Myra. From this position, he took active steps to protect the poor and the needy, founding hospitals and various charitable institutions. Blessed with a deep Christian spirit, courage, and vitality, he encouraged persecuted Christians during the Roman persecutions, even suffering exile and many tortures for his actions. When Emperor Constantine ascended to the throne, all Christians were liberated, and Nicholas returned to his archbishopric. According to tradition, he was also endowed with the gift of miracles, saving many people both during his life and after his death.
He is especially honored throughout the Greek world by those of the sea. He is the patron saint of sailors, the Navy, and the Merchant Marine. He is the patron saint of several cities, including Alexandroupolis, Volos, Galaxidi, Kozani, Polygyros, Sitia, and Syros.
The story of this specific icon begins even before the monk iconographer finished painting the representation on canvas. It is a beautiful work of art, as even the wood of the base is a piece of Mount Athos, having come from a restored Athonite cell.
Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon request.
