Description

Silk Screen Print of Saint Nicholas on Naturally Aged Wood

This stunning silk screen print represents Saint Nicholas, one of the greatest saints of Orthodoxy, whose feast day is celebrated on December 6th.

Saint Nicholas was born in the 3rd century in Patara, Lycia, to devout parents. Orphaned at a young age, he inherited a large fortune from his parents, which he used to help those in need. He dedicated his life to asceticism and later became the Archbishop of Myra. He is especially revered by those connected to the sea, being the patron saint of sailors, the military navy, and the merchant navy. In Byzantine art, he is often depicted saving sailors from shipwrecks. Saint Nicholas is also the patron saint of many Greek cities.

This image is set on naturally aged wood, which showcases visible cracks and the aged quality of the material. The wood originates from a restored monastic cell on Mount Athos. When a cell or building is restored, the monks preserve some of the used wood, which is then reused as a base for iconography. These exceptional pieces of art carry with them a piece of the history of this sacred place.

Note: Since the image is handmade, slight variations in the wood may occur, but not in the depiction.
