Description

Silkscreen of Saint Nicholas on Naturally Aged Wood

An exceptional image depicting Saint Nicholas, one of the greatest saints of Orthodoxy, whose feast day is celebrated on December 6.

Saint Nicholas was born in the 3rd century AD in Patara, Lycia, to pious and wealthy parents. He became an orphan at a young age, inheriting a large fortune from his parents, which he generously distributed to help those in need.

He later dedicated himself to the ascetic life, and was eventually honored with the title of Archbishop of Myra. From this position, he vigorously worked for the protection of the poor and the establishment of hospitals and other charitable institutions. Gifted with high Christian virtues, courage, and vitality, he encouraged persecuted Christians under the Roman Empire, suffering persecution and exile for his stance. During the Diocletian persecutions, he endured numerous tortures. However, when Emperor Constantine ascended to the throne, all Christians were freed, and Saint Nicholas returned to his archbishopric. According to tradition, he was also endowed with the gift of miracles, saving many people both during his life and after his death.

He is particularly honored throughout Greece by seafarers. He is the patron saint of sailors, both the Navy and Merchant Navy. He is the patron saint of Alexandroupoli, Volos, Galaxidi, Kozani, Polygyros, Sitia, and Syros.

The history of this particular image begins even before the iconographer monk finished the representation on the canvas. This is a magnificent work of art, as even the wood of the base is a piece of Mount Athos, originating from a restored Athonite cell.

As the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The image is available upon order.
