Description

Sandblasting gold printing with Saint Minas the Great Martyr

An amazing gold print with Agios Minas. The Orthodox Church gave him the nickname Great Martyr and celebrates his memory on November 11.

Saint Minas was a military officer and served in Cotyaeum in Phrygia under Diocletian (284-305) and Maximian (286-305). Because he did not tolerate idolatry, he retired to the mountains of the region, where he lived by fasting and prayers. In fact, it is characteristic that in the ascetic life he was followed by other soldiers friends.

During the persecution of the Christians he

went down to Kotyaio to strengthen the persecuted. There he was arrested, confessed his faith in Christ and martyred by beheading. Christians took his dead body and buried it, while later his sacred bones were transported and buried in Egypt.
Agios Minas is the patron saint of Heraklion, Crete and other cities of Greece.

There are two elements that compose the special aesthetics of this icon, which has been created by an Mount Athos monk. One is the impeccably crafted representation of Agios Minas and the second is the natural aging wood that has been used as the basis of the icon and comes from the Garden of the Virgin Mary. An irrefutable witness of its age are the cracks that run through its surface and prove the years that have been used in the daily life of Mount Athos monks.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of Saint Minas, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal gold sheet is placed on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
