Silkscreen Print of Saint Mina on Naturally Aged Wood
An exquisite silkscreen print on naturally aged wood depicting Saint Mina. The Orthodox Church bestowed upon him the title of Great Martyr, and his memory is celebrated on November 11th.
Saint Mina was a soldier who served in Cotyaeum of Phrygia during the reign of Diocletian (284-305) and Maximian (286-305). As he could not tolerate idolatry, he withdrew to the mountains of the area, where he lived with fasting and prayers. During the persecution of Christians, he descended to Cotyaeum to support the persecuted. There, he was arrested, confessed his faith in Christ, and was martyred by beheading. Christians took his body and buried it, and later, his sacred bones were transferred and buried in Egypt.
Saint Mina is the patron saint of Heraklion, Crete, and other cities in Greece.
Two elements contribute to the unique aesthetic of this icon. One is the flawless depiction of Saint Mina, and the second is the naturally aged wood used as the base of the image, which comes from the Garden of the Virgin Mary.
Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
