Description

Serigraph of Saint Jude Thaddaeus on Naturally Aged Wood

A beautiful icon of Saint Jude Thaddaeus on naturally aged wood. The wood’s grain, cracks, protrusions, and other natural features remain unchanged by the creator, who respected and faithfully rendered the Byzantine tradition of Mount Athos.

The Apostle Jude Thaddaeus was a highly educated Jew from Edessa. When he went to Jerusalem for pilgrimage, he heard the preaching of John the Baptist, and seeing his angelic life, he was so impressed that he sought baptism from him.

Later, when he heard the teachings and saw the miracles of our Lord Jesus Christ, he became one of His disciples and followed Him until His saving Passion. After the Ascension of the Lord, he returned to his homeland. There, he healed the governor Abgar of leprosy and subsequently baptized him as a Christian. He preached the Gospel, enlightening many with the word of truth and baptizing numerous people. He founded many churches in the cities of Syria. In Beirut, he peacefully gave up his spirit.

His feast day is celebrated on August 21.
