Description

Sandblasted gilding with Saint Porphyrios the Causokalyvite.

An amazing gilding with Saint Porphyrios of Kausokalyvitis.

An amazing image in the form of Saint Porphyrios of Kausokalyvitis, who was ranked among the Saints of the Orthodox Church in 2013. The elder Porphyrios was born in 1906 in Evia and at the age of 12 he secretly left for Mount Athos. He became a monk at the age of 14 and took the name Nikitas, but after a few years he became seriously ill, which forced him to leave Mount Athos.

He returned to Evia, where he retired to the Monastery of Agios Charalambous Lefko and in 1926 he was ordained a priest by Porphyrios III, Archbishop of Sinai, who gave him the name Porphyrios. At the age of 22, he became a spiritual confessor and a little later an archimandrite. In 1940, on the eve of the Second World War, he took on the duties of vicar and cleric at the Athens Polyclinic, where he remained for many years. In June 1991, sensing his end, he left for the hut of Agios Georgios in Kavsokalyvia of Mount Athos, where he gave up his spirit on December 2 of the same year.
