Description

Lithograph of Saint Iakovos Chalikis

A lithograph of Saint Iakovos Chalikis, who was born in 1920 AD in Asia Minor, specifically in Livisi of Makri. Saint Iakovos desired to go to the Holy Land and live as a hermit in the desert. However, he considered it best to visit the monastery of Saint David before embarking on his journey to the Holy Land, in order to seek the help and intercession of the saint, where he ultimately stayed.

Saint Iakovos demonstrated unwavering faith in God and Saint David during all his trials and temptations. His ordination as a deacon took place on December 18, 1952, in the chapel of Saint Barbara in Chalkida, and as a priest the following day, December 19, in the chapel of the Episcopal residence. His death, which occurred on November 21, 1991, was as holy as his life, and he had foreseen it.

Lithograph: Characteristics

In the image depicting Saint Iakovos, the monk iconographer used the lithography technique to create a work of unique aesthetic value. Specifically, by using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the monk created this piece following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught in the iconography workshops of the Athonite State. Moreover, the artificial aging of the iconography is handmade, a process to which the monks of Mount Athos place great importance.
