Description

Handmade Pyrography Depicting Saint Andrew

An exceptional image created using the technique of pyrography, depicting Saint Andrew. This image has been entirely handmade.

Andrew, a fisherman by trade, came from Bethsaida in Galilee and was the brother of the Apostle Peter. As the first among the disciples called by the Lord, he was named the First-Called.

Andrew (along with John the Evangelist) was initially a disciple of John the Baptist, who, one day, showing them Jesus, said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” The two simple fishermen were so moved that without hesitation or reserve, they immediately left their teacher and followed Jesus.

The Apostle Andrew preached in Bithynia, the Black Sea, Thrace, Macedonia, and Epirus. Ultimately, he reached Achaea, where his teachings and miraculous healings angered the governor. Encouraged by pagan priests, they arrested Andrew and crucified him on a cross shaped like an X.

Pyrography: Characteristics

Pyrography is an art that attracts many creators due to the impressive results it can achieve. It is a painting technique that uses two of the primal elements of Nature: wood and fire. With patience and attention to detail, monks create the pyrographic image, paying great attention to avoiding mistakes, as they cannot be corrected as with pencil work.

This particular image combines the art of engraving with that of pyrography, creating an outstanding relief effect.
