Saint Alexander was renowned for his virtue and served as the Patriarch of Constantinople. His memory is celebrated on August 30.

Saint Alexander was born in Calabria, Italy, and was dedicated to God from a young age. In 314, he succeeded Metrophanes as the Patriarch of Constantinople, and in 325, he was one of the 318 Fathers of the Church who participated in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, condemning the heresy of Arius.

He peacefully passed away in 337.

Aged Lithography: Characteristics

This particular image was created using the lithography technique, which is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is also used by several monks to create exquisite works of art. In this case, the monk used a lithographed copy of Byzantine art and created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging. The lithography technique in iconography is essentially a printing technique.
