Description

Silk Screen Printing of Saints Spyridon & Charalambos on Naturally Aged Wood

Silk screen printing depicting two great saints of the Orthodox Faith, Saint Spyridon (December 12) and Saint Charalambos (February 10), on naturally aged wood, specially treated by Athonite monks.

Saint Spyridon is an important figure in Christianity, of Cypriot origin, closely connected to the city and island of Corfu, where he is the patron saint. Due to his virtue and exemplary Christian life, he was elected bishop of Trimythous and participated in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea (325), which shaped Christian doctrine. He distinguished himself as a fierce critic of Arius, who spread the belief that Christ is not the Son of God, but His creation. He demonstrated the fundamental Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity by performing a miracle with a tile. Holding it in his hand and showing it to those present at the Council, he made the sign of the cross over it and said:
– “In the name of the Father,” and the fire with which the tile was baked rose upwards.
Indeed, he performed a miracle trying to counter the heretic Arius to prove the groundlessness of Arius’ teachings. To demonstrate the invalidity of Arius’ doctrines, he put his left hand in his pocket and took out a tile. Showing it to those present at the Council, he made the sign of the cross with his right hand and said: The fathers witnessing the scene were truly amazed. For with the words of Spyridon, the fire with which the tile had been baked rose upwards.

– “And of the Son,” he added. Then the water with which the tile was kneaded flowed downward.

He peacefully passed away on December 12, 350 AD.

Saint Charalambos was a priest in Magnesia, Asia Minor, and is believed to have been born in 89 AD. According to historical records, he was arrested by the governor Lucian during the period of Christian persecutions. He endured severe torture, but no one could convince him to renounce his faith. Finally, he was beheaded at the age of 113. His memory is honored on February 10 by the Church, which calls him the Hieromartyr.

On the same day, Saints Porphyrios and Baptos are also celebrated, two of the soldiers who were ordered to torture him and who, seeing his martyrdom, became Christians.
