Description

Sandblasting gold printing with Panagia Zoodochos Pigi

An amazing gold print with Panagia Zoodochos Pigi.

Panagia Zoodochos Pigi celebrates on the Friday after Easter Sunday, the Friday of the Holy Week. This festival was established during the Byzantine period, during the 5th century.

In Constantinople, holy water of the Virgin Mary was found by King Leo I (457-474). Next to him, Leo built a magnificent temple dedicated to the Zoodochos or Life-giving Spring, namely the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is so named because she received in her womb the giver of life, Jesus Christ. Thus, there could not be a more fitting name for the holy water that constantly gushed and had healing effects on the faithful.

The inauguration of the church next to which the holy water was found took place on Friday of Easter Week. Since then, the Church has established to commemorate them every year on the same day.

This temple suffered great damage from natural phenomena but also from enemy raids. Its total destruction took place during the Turkish occupation. It was rebuilt again in 1833-1834 during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II and Patriarch Constantius. Its construction, in fact, was completed within fifteen months. It is the well-known church of Panagia Zoodochos Pigi of Baloukli.

From the memory of the inauguration of the church of Panagia Zoodochos Pigi, it was established to honor every year on the Friday of the Holy Week Panagia Zoodochos Pigi. This is the first feast of the Mother of God after the Resurrection of the Lord. This celebration is not so much the remembrance of a great event as a reminder and celebration of the living reality that the Virgin Mary is the source of life. He brought into the world the life-giving Christ, the Savior of the world.
