An exact replica of the original image crafted on natural fir wood. This is a very rare depiction of the Virgin Mary with the young Christ standing, wearing episcopal vestments and a mitre on His head. The Virgin is shown holding in her right hand the stem of a rose from Jericho, while with her left hand she cradles the young Christ in her arms, along with a stalk of wheat.

The Rose of Jericho, also known as the Rose of the Virgin or the immortal rose of the Resurrection, is a plant that symbolizes eternity and the imperishable, immortal nature of the soul, as it never dies.

It originates from the areas of Jordan and is known as the “rose of the desert.” Tradition says that the Rose of Jericho accompanied the Virgin Mary on her solitary journey from Jerusalem to Egypt, and that out of respect for her grace, it would bloom beside her at each stop and then close again to follow her steps through the desert whenever she continued her journey.

The Virgin Mary wept with emotion, and the roses opened with her tears! She blessed them to never die!

Lithograph – Features

The lithography technique is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is also used by several monks to create exceptional works of art. In this case, the iconographer monk used a lithographed copy of Byzantine art and created this piece following the traditional method of handmade aging. As a result, he created a beautiful work with unique aesthetic value. The wood has been treated with appropriate materials to ensure long-lasting durability of the colors over time.
