Description

Canvas Image of Panagia Rodon to Amarantho
An exact replica of the original icon painted on canvas. An extremely rare depiction of the Virgin Mary with the young Christ in a standing posture, wearing episcopal garments and a mitre on His head. The Virgin Mary is shown holding in her right palm the stem of a rose from Jericho, while with her left hand she holds the infant Christ in her left arm, along with an ear of wheat.

The Rose of Jericho, also known as the rose of the Virgin or the eternal rose of the Resurrection, is a plant that symbolizes eternity and the incorruptibility of the soul because it never dies.

This rose comes from the regions of Jordan. It is the rose of the desert. Tradition says that the Rose of Jericho accompanied the Virgin Mary on her solitary journey from Jerusalem to Egypt and that, out of respect for her grace, it opened beside her at each of her stops and closed again to follow her steps in the desert, each time she continued her journey.

The Virgin Mary wept in emotion, and the roses opened from her tears! She blessed them to never die!

Canvas Image – Features
In the technique of printing on canvas, the monk iconographer used a replica of a Byzantine icon and worked on the piece with embossed elements. The creation of the icon is entirely hand-crafted with an aging technique. The canvas is impregnated with plaster so that the image retains its colors unchanged over time.

The image is available upon order.
