Serigraph with Panagia Panton Elpis on Naturally Aged Wood
An amazing icon with an exceptionally rare representation, named Panagia Panton Elpis, on naturally aged wood from Mount Athos.
The original icon is located on the right side of the narthex in the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helena in the Hippodrome Square in Thessaloniki. According to the most widely accepted version, the icon was brought from Asia Minor by Greek refugees, and it is estimated to likely date back to the 15th century.
In 1931, specifically on the night of Great Thursday, it was reported in the local press that the icon began to weep. It is worth mentioning that after 2000, specialists cleaned it, and during the examination, it was found that this particular icon, along with two others, does not match the church’s iconostasis or the style of Thessalonian iconographers.
The stunning serigraph created by the monk and the antiquity of the wood, confirmed by the cracks on its surface, are two key elements that make this icon a collector’s item.
Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
The icon is available upon order.
