Description
Weathered Lithograph of Panagia Pantanassa
An exact replica of the original icon, crafted on natural fir wood, depicting Panagia Pantanassa holding the young Jesus in her arms.
The miraculous icon of the Theotokos Pantanassa is a portable 17th-century artwork housed in the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi. In religious tradition, the title *Pantanassa* is one of the many epithets of the Theotokos, meaning “Queen of All” or “Lady of the Universe.”
Numerous miracles are attributed to the Pantanassa, one of which involves a young man who visited the monastery to venerate the icon. However, an invisible force knocked him to the ground, and upon recovering, he confessed that he had strayed from the path of God. He repented and saved his soul.
Lithograph – Features
The art of lithography is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is widely used by monks to create exceptional works of art. In this case, the monk-iconographer utilized a lithographic replica of Byzantine art and crafted this piece using the traditional method of manual aging. This process resulted in a remarkable artwork of unique aesthetic value. The wood has been treated with appropriate materials to ensure long-lasting color durability over time.
