An exact replica of the original image crafted on natural fir wood. “The Sweet Kiss of the Angels” is a hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos, to whom the entire Athonite state is dedicated. “The Sweet Kiss of the Angels, the joy of the sorrowful,” is a phrase found in one of the hymns of the Feast of the Assumption. The Sweet Kiss of the Angels is the Virgin Mary, who brings joy and fulfillment because she brought Jesus Christ into the world. In this image, the Virgin Mary embraces Christ, while two angelic figures are visible above. The representation of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the favorite themes of the monks of Mount Athos, who in this way express their boundless faith and love.

Lithograph – Features

The lithography technique is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos and is also used by several monks to create exceptional works of art. In this case, the iconographer monk used a lithographed copy of Byzantine art and crafted this piece following the traditional method of handmade aging. Thus, he created a beautiful work with unique aesthetic value. The wood has been treated with appropriate materials to ensure the long-lasting durability of the colors over time.
