An amazing work, the Sweetness of the Angels, praises the Most Holy Theotokos, to whom the entire Athonite State is dedicated.

“The Sweetness of the Angels, the joy of the sorrowful,” is a characteristic reference in one of the hymns of the Dormition of the Theotokos. The Sweetness of the Angels is the Virgin Mary, who brings joy and fulfillment because she is the one who brought Jesus Christ into the world.

In this image, the Virgin Mary embraces Christ, while above, two angelic figures are visible. The representation of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the favorite themes of the monks of Mount Athos, who in this way show their boundless faith and love.

The naturally aged wood used for this particular image comes from the Garden of the Virgin Mary, specifically from the monks’ cell, which was renovated due to damage it had suffered over time. The wood was carefully worked by the hands of a monk, preserved, and ultimately became the base for this specific image of the Sweetness of the Angels.

The image has double value, not only because it depicts the most beloved sacred figure of Christianity, the Virgin Mary, but also because the wood comes from the Garden of the Theotokos itself and carries with it the blessings and prayers of the Athonite fathers.

Since the image is handmade and the woodwork is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
