The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary of Pantanassa is portable of the 17th century and is located in the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. In religion the word Pantanassa is used as one of the hundreds of nicknames of the Virgin Mary, while the word itself means the queen of everything, the lady of the universe.

Many miracles are attributed to Pantanassa and one of them concerns a young man who visited the monastery wanting to worship. However, an invisible force brought him down, and when he recovered he confessed that he had strayed from God’s way, repented, and saved his soul.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of Panagia Pantanassi, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal gold sheet is placed on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
