Icon with gold leaf and semi-precious stones in the halo, on a natural piece of wood, crafted by the hands of Monks from Mount Athos.

An excellent iconography depicting the Virgin Mary Diomenes.

The Virgin Mary is depicted in a bust, in a posture of supplication, turning three-quarters to the right. She wears a bluish tunic and a green maphorion with a golden border and fringes. Three golden star-shaped ornaments on the maphorion symbolize the Holy Trinity and allude to the Virgin Mary’s role in the Incarnation. The facial features of the Virgin and the technique used to portray her face, with the soft interplay of light and shadow, the broad luminous surface of her skin that tinges with a rosy hue, and the flexible linear lights, convey the tenderness of the flesh and the sacred beauty of the Mother of God.
