According to tradition, this name was given to the Virgin Mary because she is depicted holding Jesus in her right hand, while the most common hagiography is to have the divine Child in her left hand.

However, there is another version, according to which the Virgin Mary was and is the intercessor of people to God. In other words, She is the One who receives the supplications, prayers, and entreaties of all people who turn to Her for help. Panagia Dexiokratousa is Mother Panagia, the intercessor and rescuer, who is always there by the side of every person and waits to hear his prayers to intercede for their fulfillment.
