A wonderful gold print with the representation of the Virgin Mary, who bears the nickname Immaculate. The Virgin Mary Immaculate in Orthodox iconography is also called Our Lady of the Passion, because Christ gazes at the two Angels depicted on either side of the Virgin Mary and holding in their hands the symbols of the passion, namely the Cross, the Lance and the Sponge.

In the face of Christ one can discern his frightened gaze, which is explained by the fact that what he sees before him are his Passion and Sacrifice on the Cross. The name of the icon comes from the hymn of Compline “Aspile, Undefiled, Ahrade…” composed by the monk Paul. In this icon, the Virgin Mary is seen holding Jesus Christ in her arms, with her hand protectively under his body.

Sandblasted Gold Printing: Features

In the icon with the representation of Panagia Immaculate, the hagiographer monk used the technique of gold printing, creating a work of unique beauty. Gold-stamping is a kind of hot-stamping technique. Hot-stamping is the method by which very thin metal foil is glued on surfaces such as wood, leather, cardboard, plastic by pressing a heated embossed plate (plate) on our surface. Around the image you also use the technique of sandblasting, it is the technical treatment that achieves the corrosion of part or all of a surface by pouring sand under pressure.
