Description

Handmade Hagiography On natural linden wood by the hands of the hagiographer, the saintly monk Father Vasilios, who is buried in the Holy Cell of Agios Anthony of the Holy Monastery of Philotheus.
An exceptional iconography depicting Holy Mary  Glykofilousa, crafted entirely by hand.

This specific iconography has been crafted by the Agiorite Father Vasilios, based on Byzantine iconography standards. The depiction of the Saint has been painted entirely by hand. Coating the hagiography with pure beeswax ensures that the colors of the image remain unchanged over time.

The original icon of Glykophiloussa is one of those icons that were saved during the iconoclasm and were miraculously transported to Athos. It was the property of Victoria, the pious wife of the iconoclast Simeon, who, in order not to surrender it, threw it into the sea. The icon, floating upright in the waves, reached the arsenal of the Philotheu Monastery, where it was received with great honor and joy by the abbot and the fathers of the Monastery, who had been notified of the apparition of the Virgin. At the point of the shore, where they deposited the image, a holy water gushed forth. There every year on the Monday of Epiphany there is a litany and consecration.
