An excellent lithograph with relief colors depicting Panagia Amolyntos.

The Virgin Mary in Orthodox iconography is also called the Virgin Mary of the Passion, because Christ gazes at the two Angels who are depicted on either side of the Virgin Mary and hold in their hands the symbols of passion, i.e. the Cross, the Spear and the Sponge. In the face of Christ one can distinguish his terrified look, which is explained by the fact that what he sees in front of him are his Passions and Sacrifice on the Cross.

The name of the icon comes from the Apodeipnos hymn “Aspile, Amolynte, Achrate…” composed by the monk Pavlos.
