Description

Lithograph of Jesus the Bridegroom

An exquisite and highly symbolic lithograph of Jesus the Bridegroom. In Orthodox Christianity, Jesus is likened to the Bridegroom, as in His person, a sacred “marriage” is fulfilled—the union of God and humanity. Furthermore, in the person of Jesus, we witness the coexistence of both God and man. This is why Christ is also called the “Bridegroom of the Church.” Indeed, the relationship of a married couple is compared by the Apostle Paul to the relationship between Christ and the Church. In the person of Christ, we see His boundless love for mankind and all of humanity, for it is only with such love that He could make such a sacrifice—becoming a humble man, enduring suffering, and ultimately being crucified.

Lithograph: Characteristics

This image of Jesus has been created using the lithography technique. The monk who created this work trained in the iconography workshops of the monasteries of Mount Athos, where he learned both the lithography technique and the process of handmade artificial aging, a method to which the monks of Mount Athos place great importance. The lithography technique in iconography is a printing technique.
