Aged Serigraph of Christ Blessing
An exquisite aged serigraph painted on natural fir wood. The image represents Christ Blessing, depicted with His right hand raised in blessing towards the faithful. Jesus Christ offers His blessing to the people, for whom He came into the world, suffered, and was ultimately crucified. He gave His life to save humanity from sin, decay, and death. Christ never denied His blessing to anyone, and He was the one who always approached not only the virtuous but also the wayward, to stand by them and show them the path of God. With His hand, He blesses all of humanity, showing His boundless love for each person individually.
Serigraph – Characteristics
The serigraph technique is widely used in iconography and is taught and applied in many iconography workshops, including those of Mount Athos. In these icons, monks employ traditional methods, meaning the iconographer creates much of the artwork by hand with very little technological involvement. The aging process of the icons is also handmade, giving these works collectible value. They are accurate replicas of Byzantine art, with a distinct charm of antiquity. The icon is created with high-quality materials on natural wood, and the painted surface is coated with pure beeswax to preserve the colors of the image over time.
