Description

Serigraph of the Last Supper on Naturally Aged Wood

A magnificent image of the Last Supper on naturally aged wood from a Mount Athos cell. The monk who created this work respects the age of the wood and faithfully conveys the Byzantine tradition of Mount Athos.

On the Thursday before Jesus was led to the cross, He held the Last Supper in Jerusalem with His disciples, and Judas betrays Him. Before the meal began, Jesus washed the feet of all His disciples, wanting to teach them humility. Then He sat at the table, took the bread, and said, “Take and eat.” He did the same with the cup of wine, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is My blood. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In this way, He delivered to mankind the mystery of the Holy Eucharist.

The meaning of the Last Supper is the two sides of love, joy and sorrow, light and darkness. Christ’s love for His disciples and humanity brings salvation from passions. However, at the same time, Judas’ love for thirty pieces of silver is destructive, leading him from light into darkness. On Great Thursday, the Church commemorates the Last Supper, the passing on of the mystery of the Holy Eucharist by the Lord Himself to mankind.

This is a wonderful image on naturally aged wood, in which the cracks and the patina are clearly visible, enhancing its unique value. Specifically, this image stands out not only for its theme and the exquisite work of the Athonite monk, but also for the wood used, which comes from a restored cell of Mount Athos as the base.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
