Description

Image of Christ the Life-Giver on Naturally Aged Wood

The image of Christ the Life-Giver is placed on Naturally Aged Wood. Christ is depicted as stern and just, while the background of the image adds even more Byzantine grandeur.

Christ the Life-Giver is the source of life, the leader of life and death. Throughout the history of the world, the only victor over decay and death is Christ. Through His crucifixion, He definitively defeated death and sin.

The Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of the Church. The incarnation of God marks the entry of the eternal and incorruptible into history. In a world dissolving in decay and corruption, eternity, personified in Christ, invades as the possibility of overcoming death. The Resurrection of Christ represents the final victory over death, not only as a continuation of biological life but as immortality.

The monks of Mount Athos, using many different techniques that are not as popular today, preserve old wooden utilitarian objects or furniture and transform them into works of art that bear the stamp of time. The image of Christ, printed as a serigraphy, has undergone artificial aging to match stylistically with the old wood. On the back, it bears the inscription “Mount Athos,” indicating its origin. The whole piece conveys the history and style of life on Mount Athos.

Since the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.
