Silk Screen of Jesus Christ Pantocrator on Naturally Aged Wood

A magnificent silk screen representation of Christ Pantocrator, which is an exceptional example of the monks’ craftsmanship in wood processing.

The word “Pantocrator” itself means the Almighty or the ruler of all, the one who holds all power. The image of Christ Pantocrator is often painted on the central dome (cupola) of all Byzantine churches, and in churches lacking a dome, in the basilica style, it is painted in the center of the ceiling. This particular depiction of Christ is one of the traditional themes in Byzantine and post-Byzantine art.

The base of this image is a piece of wood, which comes from a restored cell in Mount Athos. It is wood that has been preserved using the techniques the monks apply to the wooden iconostasis of churches and was then repurposed as the base for this icon. The monks collect old pieces of wood from doors, shutters, and even the furniture of a cell, and with the passion they put into their work, they transform them into beautiful icons. These are collectible icons of the “Mount Athos Heritage.”

As the image is handmade and the wood processing is done by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction itself.
