An aged lithograph depicting Christ Blessing. In this image, Christ is shown with His right hand raised in a gesture of blessing, offering His divine grace to the faithful. Jesus Christ blesses humanity, for whom He came into the world, suffered, and was ultimately crucified. He gave His life to save mankind from sin, corruption, and death. Christ never denies His blessing to anyone; He often approached not only the virtuous but also those who had strayed, to stand by them and guide them toward the path of God. Through His raised hand, He blesses the entire world, demonstrating His boundless love for each person individually.
Aged Lithograph: Characteristics
In this icon, the monk-iconographer employed the lithography technique to create a uniquely beautiful piece adorned with gold leaf around its edges. By using a lithographed reproduction of Byzantine art, the monk crafted this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught in the iconography workshops of the Athonite monastic community. The artificial aging process is performed by hand, a technique highly valued by the monks of Mount Athos.
