Description

Serigraph with the Synaxis of the Archangels on Naturally Aged Wood

This image presents a magnificent representation of the Synaxis of the Archangels. The word Synaxis here is interpreted as attention, harmony, and unity.

The God and Creator of the universe, in addition to the visible and material world, created the immaterial and invisible Angelic world, as the Creator of both the visible and the invisible. The Angels are bodiless and incorporeal, constantly praising God. They surround the Throne of God in Heaven, but stand in awe, fear, and respect, covering their faces with their wings, as they cannot gaze directly upon God.

Specifically, God created ten Orders of Angels, nine of which have the following names: Angels, Archangels, Principalities, Powers, Authorities, Thrones, Dominions, Cherubim, Seraphim. The leader of the tenth order was Lucifer, who, due to his excessive pride, boasted that he would place his throne above the clouds of heaven and become like God. As soon as the Devil thought these things, he and his order fell from heavenly glory and, from being bright Angels, became dark demons.

The Archangel Michael witnessed the fall of the Angels, understood the cause of it, and, with submission and humility, demonstrated his faith in God. For this submission, God ordained that Michael would be the first among the Angelic orders. Archangel Michael gathered all the Angels and united them into one, calling them to “Pay attention” (Πρόσχωμεν), meaning to understand who God is and who the Angel is. God is the Master and Creator of all, and the Angels are servants and creations of God. Thus, the Angels praised and glorified God, chanting the Angelic hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of His glory.”

In remembrance of the work carried out by the Angels, the Church has set November 8th as the day of celebration. This feast is called the Synaxis of the Archangels.

This particular image is a unique Athonite work of art. From the representation created by the Athonite monk in serigraphy to the wood, which comes from a renovated Athonite cell. Even the cracks that run across the surface testify that this wood has been used for many years by the monks of the Holy Mount.

Since the image is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The image is available by special order.
