Angels, as the Bible says, do not act of their own accord but are sent by God when the divine will is to be manifested or carried out on important historical occasions.

Both the Old and New Testaments contain many accounts of countless instances when an angel of the Lord appeared to convey God’s will to a person.

At the head of the angelic forces are the archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Michael is found in the Old Testament accounts, when Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac, when God decided to destroy Gomorrah but save Lot elsewhere. It was the archangel Michael who led the people of Israel to flee from Egypt.

The archangel Gabriel is found in the New Testament. He is the one who carries the joyful message to the Virgin Mary during the Annunciation.

In memory of the missions and work performed by the angels, the Church has designated them to be celebrated on November 8. This feast is called the gathering of the Archangels.
