Description

Lithograph of Archangel Michael the Taxiarch

The Archangel Michael is the commander of the bodiless powers, appearing as the Chief Commander, and plays a pivotal role in both the Old and New Testaments. He has been established as the patron saint of the Air Force. He is the one who appeared to Abraham during the sacrifice of Isaac.

When Lucifer, who belonged to the angels, rebelled against God due to his pride, a legion of angels deserted God and followed him. These angels, along with Lucifer, were cast out and became demons. Then, Archangel Michael, with humility and submission to God, gathered and united the ranks of the angels, calling out to them “Let us attend,” meaning let us be careful not to fall from the light into darkness as Lucifer did.

Lithograph: Characteristics

Using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the iconographer monk created this work following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught to him on Mount Athos. In the four corners, the image is adorned with a golden finish, between the carvings of the artificial aging.

The image is available upon request.
