Description

Image of Archangel Michael on Naturally Aged Wood

A beautiful serigraphy of Archangel Michael, the archangel of the unbodied powers.

Archangel Michael is depicted as the Commander-in-Chief and plays a pivotal role in both the Old and New Testaments.

He was the one who saved the angelic forces from falling with his Let us attend! Let us stand well, let us stand in awe.” For this boldness, the Triune God gave him the position of “Lord of the Angelic Hosts,” Commander-in-Chief and Archangel. He, along with all the angels, proclaimed the Trisagion Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth, heaven and earth are full of His glory.” Additionally, it is believed that by God’s command, the Protoplasts were driven from Paradise by Archangel Michael.

He was the one who announced to Abraham the need for the sacrifice of his son Isaac, but then prevented it. He was the one who appeared to Lot and saved him and his family from the destruction of Sodom, as well as to Jacob when he saved him from his brother Esau, who sought to kill him. Furthermore, Archangel Michael was the one who led the people of Israel in their flight from Egypt, appearing as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, guiding them to the Promised Land.

In the New Testament, he is the one who will announce the second coming of Jesus Christ. He is prophetically depicted leading an army of angels in a war in heaven against “the great dragon, the ancient serpent, Satan,” and the demons.

He has become established as the patron saint of the Air Force. He is usually depicted holding a spear, but in several representations, he also holds a scepter, a symbol of the authority granted to him by God.

He is celebrated together with Archangel Gabriel on November 8th.

The naturally aged wood, from a restored Athonite cell, on which this icon is created, gives it a unique aesthetic and collectible value, while also transferring a piece of the centuries-old history of Mount Athos outside of the Athonite State.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood is processed by hand, there may be slight variations in the wood, but not in the depiction.

The icon is available upon request.
