Description

Engraved Lithograph of Saint Euphemia

Saint Euphemia lived and was martyred during the reign of Emperor Diocletian.

She was born in Chalcedon to a devout and noble family. Her parents, Psilophron and Theodoriani, ensured she developed every Christian virtue. Euphemia was known for her rare gifts and strong Christian faith, which she demonstrated when she refused to participate in a pagan festival honoring the god Ares. For this, she was arrested and imprisoned.

During her captivity, the enemies of Christ tried in every way to persuade her to renounce her faith, but Saint Euphemia remained steadfast despite the tortures. Ultimately, she was killed by a bear.

This particular icon was created using the lithography technique, based on a lithographed copy of Byzantine art. The monk iconographer followed the traditional method of handcrafted artificial aging, as taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos. The woodwork is entirely handmade, so slight variations in the dimensions of each icon may occur.

The icon is available upon request.
