Description

Engraved Lithograph with Saint Stylianos

Saint Stylianos was born into a wealthy family, but from a young age, he was taught by his parents to be temperate and to consider money as a means to relieve and care for the poor and the sick. When his parents passed away, he distributed his entire inheritance and went to live in the desert as a hermit. In fact, his fame spread even to the cities, and many would rush to find him to seek spiritual guidance. Despite his solitary life, Saint Stylianos showed great affection and compassion for children. He even explained that childhood, by nature, is more virtuous. Many times, parents would bring their children to him, and the Saint’s joy would be immense. God, rewarding this sacred feeling, granted Saint Stylianos the gift of healing sick children and helping childless women.

Engraved Lithograph: Features

The work is entirely hand-crafted, without the use of machinery, on engraved natural wood. It is a work by the iconographer Athanasios, a student of the Athoniada Ecclesiastical Academy, who remains faithful to Byzantine art as he was taught at Mount Athos. His works are coated with pure beeswax to preserve their timelessness.

In this particular icon, the monk iconographer used the technique of lithography, creating a work of unique beauty. Specifically, by using a lithographed copy of Byzantine art, the monk crafted this piece following the traditional method of artificial aging, as taught in the iconography workshops of the Athonite State. Moreover, the artificial aging of the icon is handmade, a process to which the monks of Mount Athos attach great importance.

Since the icon is handmade and the wood processing is done entirely by hand, there may be slight variations in the dimensions of each icon.

The icon is available upon order.
