In the center of the composition of the monastic cross dominates the figure of our Lord, Jesus Christ. He is fixed on the Cross, but he is not alive. The experienced craftsman painted him as if he were sleeping. His arms and legs do not hang like dead – his arms, nailed, are outstretched and embrace the whole world.

To the right of the Cross is the sorrowful and aching Virgin Mary while to the left is the beloved disciple of Christ, John the Evangelist.

Christ was crucified in the so-called place of the skull – Calvary (Jn 17). In the icon of the Crucifixion, under the rocky peak of Calvary, which is depicted as a cave on which the Cross of the Lord is erected, a skull can be seen inside the cave. According to an ancient tradition first preserved by Origen, this skull is the skull of Adam, who died and was buried on Calvary.

The scene of the Crucifixion is outside the city walls, which can be seen behind. So we too must go outside the walls of our selfishness and reach out to others through Christ.

On the reverse side of the Cross stands out the psalm rm’ (140th) – Lord I cried unto thee.

More specifically, it is written in embossed capital letters in detail:

Lord, I cried out to You, hear me, hear me.
Foreshadow the voice of my supplication,
In the midst of my cry unto thee.

At the bottom of the Cross stand out the special Byzantine motifs while around the Cross there are golden details.
