Saint Demetrius Neck Cross – Crucified, made with pure 925º silver and decorated with golden details
The Saint Demetrius neck cross is another collectible piece. It has been crafted with the blessing of an Athonite monk, whose craftsmanship specializes in creating these unique masterpieces from pure silver and gold.
Neck Cross – What does it depict?
On the front side and at the center of the composition, the Patron Saint of Thessaloniki, Saint Demetrius, is depicted in full military attire, standing in front of the viewer.
In his right hand, he holds a spear, and in his left, a sword, while wearing armor and a tunic. His head is surrounded by an embossed halo, and from his left shoulder hangs a small, round shield.
In the background, the embossed monastic motifs stand out, meticulously worked in detail, while the cross is surrounded by pure gold decorations.
Neck Cross – Reverse Side
On the reverse side, the Crucifixion of Christ is depicted, an event of utmost importance for the Orthodox Church. Christ is shown hanging on the cross with closed eyes, and an embossed halo surrounds His head. On the vertical beam of the cross, at the top, there is an inscription in large letters “INBI” (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews). Christ is pierced with a spear on His side, from which blood and water flow.
The Holy Lance, with which the Roman Centurion Longinus pierced Christ’s side, is depicted to the left of the Cross. To the right, the sponge soaked with gall and vinegar that was used to offer Jesus a drink is visible.
The golden details surrounding the Cross give it unique elegance and grace.
