Description

Neck cross depicting Saint Demetrios and the Crucified, made of solid silver 925º

Another collectible monastic cross, made with special care by a monk who has as a handiwork the construction of these unique masterpieces.

Cross for the Neck – what does it depict?

On the front side and in the center of the composition, Agios Dimitrios is depicted, in front of him and in full military gear.

With his right hand he holds a javelin, in his left he has a sword while wearing armor and tunic. His head is surrounded by a relief halo and from his left shoulder hangs a small round shield.

In the background, the embossed monastic motifs that have been worked with attention to detail stand out.

Cross for neck – back

The reverse shows the Crucifixion of the God-Man, an event of paramount importance for the Orthodox Church. Christ is depicted hanging on a cross with closed eyelids and a halo carved around His head. On the vertical beam of the cross, at the top, there is an inscription with the large letters “INBI” (Jesus of Nazarene, King of the Jews). Christ is pierced with a spear in the side while blood and water flow.

The Holy Lance with which the Roman Centurion Longinus pierced Christ in the ribs is depicted to the left of the Cross. On the right is the sponge with which Jesus was watered with bile and vinegar.
