Description
Prayer Rope Ring with Metal Element of Archangel Michael
The prayer rope, or Komboskini, is a cord made typically of wool or silk thread, braided into knots. It is a prayer aid used by monks, clergy, and laypeople of the Orthodox Christian faith.
Each part of the prayer rope carries symbolic significance. It is mainly braided from wool to remind the members of the Church that they are the rational sheep of Jesus Christ (John 10:11).
Reading spiritual books and attending Church services is beneficial and edifying. However, for those unable to do so, the prayer rope can sometimes replace other means of devotion. On each knot, one invokes the name of the Lord Jesus by saying the short prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me,” or simply, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.”
