Description

A Mount Athos prayer rope, 100 beads with a cross and walnut knots. It is made with synthetic thread and decorated with beads.

The prayer rope is not exclusive to monks. According to the Apostle Paul’s instruction to “pray without ceasing,” anyone can keep a prayer rope in their pocket or in another discreet place, allowing them to pray unnoticed, without attracting the attention of others, at any time of the day.

In the Garden of the Virgin Mary, the Orthodox monastic tradition regards prayer as an essential daily practice and communication with God. Whether alone or during the sacred services at the Catholicon of the Holy Monastery, the monks engage in prayer with fervor and remarkable results.

The making of the prayer rope is a ministry of the monks on Mount Athos, who, through a variety of monastic products they produce, offer every believer the chance to experience monastic life as a source of nourishment for Orthodox Christians everywhere.
