This is a traditional prayer rope from Mount Athos, with 50 knots.

The prayer rope is not exclusive to the monks. According to the Apostle Paul’s command, “pray without ceasing,” anyone can carry a prayer rope in their pocket or in another discreet place, so that they can pray at any time during the day without drawing attention to themselves.

In the Holy Mountain (Mount Athos), the Orthodox monastic tradition establishes prayer as an essential daily exercise and communication with God. Whether in private or during the divine services at the Catholicon of the Monastery, the monks fervently engage in prayer, with remarkable results.

The creation of the prayer rope is a service (diakonia) carried out by the monks of Mount Athos, who, through a variety of monastic products they produce, provide an opportunity for every believer to experience the monastic life as a spiritual source that nourishes Orthodox Christians around the world.
