This handcrafted wooden cross features iconographic representations of the Virgin Mary, including the Eleousa and Glykophilousa types. In these deeply tender depictions, the Theotokos (Mother of God), shown in bust form, holds the Christ Child, gently inclining her head toward His cheek. Their faces touch in a loving gesture, and the infant Jesus embraces His mother.
In the Glykophilousa variation, Christ is depicted touching His mother’s chin in a sweet, affectionate manner.
