This prayer rope is an authentic monastic handicraft, consisting of 50 knots with an icon of Saint George at the end. It is handmade by Athonite monks as part of their spiritual labor, crafted with dedication and love. Prayer ropes are among the most well-known monastic handicrafts, following the long-standing tradition of Mount Athos. The monks use the proceeds from these prayer ropes and other monastic crafts to support their livelihood and maintain their cells and sketes.

Prayer Rope: Usage
Prayer ropes typically consist of 33 or 100 knots, but they can also be larger, with 200 or even 300 knots.

They serve as an essential aid for prayer, used by monks, clergy, and laypeople. Each time a prayer is recited (usually a short one), a knot is counted, allowing for control over the number of repetitions or the passage of time.

According to Christian tradition, prayer ropes originated with Saint Pachomius in 320 A.D. Saint Pachomius sought a way to help monks concentrate during prayer. One night, he was visited in a dream by Archangel Gabriel, who showed him how to create a tool that would aid in prayer. Thus, the prayer rope was created as a divine gift to humankind.
