Prayer Rope with 50 Knots in Black with Wooden Cross
This prayer rope is an authentic monastic craftsmanship, consisting of 50 knots. At the end, there is a wooden cross, and in the middle, a discreet woven cross. It is handmade by the monks of Mount Athos as part of their monastic ministry, created with much care and love. Prayer ropes are the most well-known monastic handicrafts, following the tradition of Mount Athos. The monks use the income from the prayer ropes and other handmade items to support their livelihood or to fund the maintenance work on the cells and sketes.
Prayer Rope: Usage
A prayer rope typically consists of 33 or 100 knots, but can also be longer, with 200 or 300 knots.
It is an essential prayer aid for monks, clergy, and laypeople. Every time a prayer (usually brief) is recited, a knot is counted. This helps track the number of repetitions or the passage of time.
According to Christian tradition, prayer ropes have their origins with Saint Pachomius in 320 AD. Saint Pachomius was seeking a way to help monks focus during prayer, and in a dream, the Archangel Gabriel showed him how to create this tool to serve the needs of prayer. Thus, the prayer rope was created as a gift from God to humanity.
